Fun Indoor Hangouts to Wait Out the Rain this Season

July 24, 2018 7:00 pm by Cat Lo

Flooded streets and torrential downpours can put a damper on your parade when you’re out in the city, and it can be a challenge trying to brave the murky floodwaters trying to get home in the rain. But just because you’re unable to go home just yet doesn’t mean you can’t make the most of being stranded. There are plenty of indoor activities you can take advantage of in the hustle and bustle of Metro Manila. The following fun indoor hangouts can keep you well entertained—and safe—while you wait out the rain this season!

  1. Comedy Manila

What can be a better pick-me-up than a few laughs during the gloomy weather? A production house for quality comedy shows both local and international, Comedy Manila organizes free Open Mic sessions for up-and-comers wanting to hone their comedic chops. You can get your healthy dose of Pinoy stand-up with this awesome production that’s revolutionizing the comedy scene in Manila. Check out the various bars and events that Comedy Manila has lined up right HERE.

  1. DreamPlay

We may not have our very own Universal Studios theme park here in the Philippines just yet, but if you’re a fan of all things DreamWorks, then DreamPlay is the perfect indoor hangout for you. Fancy training with Po at the Kung Fu Panda virtual arena? Eager to test out your mad baking skills by whipping up a batch of fresh gingerbread in Shrek’s Kitchen? How about learning how to build and fly your very own dragon? DreamPlay stimulates minds all while fostering fun, interactive environments for all its guests, so head on over to the upper ground floor of City of Dreams Manila—whether it’s raining or not!

  1. Shows and Productions

If you’re more into the spectacle rather than the interactivity of things, you can always just sit back, relax, and enjoy a live show or rousing musical on stage. The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the Mall of Asia Arena, and the Solaire Resort and Casino are only a few of the indoor hangouts where you can catch a show during the heavy downpour. Check out TicketWorld for a list of all the upcoming events you can enjoy this season, and feed that theatre junkie in you!

  1. Manila Ocean Park

Manila Ocean Park may have been around for quite some time now, but it’s still a fun and highly educational place to be for both kids and adults alike. This marine park lets guests discover a magical world beneath the waves, and if you’re a fan of finding out just what the different species of marine life are (or merely observing their splendor as they swim by overhead in the glass tunnels), this oceanic world is for you. Who says you need to wait for a school field trip before you can go ahead and enjoy an aquatic adventure?

  1. Escape Rooms

Because solving puzzles are all the rage right now, escape rooms have taken over the metro with various mysteries and themes that will make you want to come back over and over again. Channel your inner Sherlock Holmes over at Mystery Manila, Lost Philippines  or Breakout Philippines, where you can grab your fill of deciphering clues, identifying magical mischief, uncovering unsolved murders, or surviving a zombie apocalypse. The possibilities are endless, and it’s a great way for you and your friends to bond—or fight over whose fault it was that you didn’t make it out in time!

  1. Self-Defense Classes

You can never be too careful when you’re out on the streets alone, as criminal minds with malicious intent can strike from nowhere at any time. While you’re waiting out the rain this season, why not enrol yourself in a self-defense class to better arm yourself? You can learn all about effective techniques on how to protect yourself from harm with krav maga and martial arts classes at Krav Maga PH or even at your nearest Fitness First branch.

  1. Library Cafes

One of the best indoor hangouts this rainy season is your favourite library café. Is there anything more peaceful than waiting out the rain with a hot cup of coffee and a good book in hand? You can browse through a wide variety of books and order your fill of hot chocolate, tea, or coffee amid quiet conversations and pleasant company. If you can’t head home just yet, you can snuggle up and chill over at these cozy book cafes HERE.

Of course, even with this list of awesome indoor hangouts you can stay at this season, there’s still no better way to stay safe during the rains than by being prepared. As soon as you get home, check out these safety methods and flood preparation tips to help you stay alert and ready when an emergency happens.  These days, it’s always better to be safe than sorry!
