Originals Only: Filipino Musicians who Create their own Music
There are an undeniably great bunch of talented Filipino singers and musicians across the country and the world. But, many of them though do not make it to the mainstream. Through events like OO: Originals Only PH, Filipino music artists get to showcase their talents as well as get to represent our vibrant and diverse local music industry.
OO: Originals Only is a live music event, featuring only local and original Filipino music, held in the Upperhouse, 2nd Floor Brewery, Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig. This once-a-month event is a project by Acousteoke in collaboration with Paradigm Shift and ZS Professional Hosts and Events Specialists.
The aim of the project is to serve as a platform where local and independent Filipino artists will be exposed and be able to showcase their originally written and composed piece. As for the audience, the project can serve as a platform where they’ll be able to discover and appreciate some of the Original Pinoy Music (OPM).
The most recent Originals Only event was held last 20 February 2018 at the Upperhouse, 2nd floor, The Brewery, BGC, Taguig. Below are the local artists who performed that night:
1. Mikee Misalucha
Although she shares the same bloodline as Lani Misalucha, Mikee knows her very own personal brand identity and music. She often plays Indie pop, Folk, Country, Pop, Alternative Rock, and Contemporary R&B. Her opening song of I got you was really amazing.
2. One Click Straight
One Click Straight is a band of Marquez brothers, Sam, Tim, and Toffer and joined by their longtime friend, Joel Cartera. Joel plays the guitar and percussions. Toffer is the frontman and bassist. Tim plays the drums and, lastly, Sam plays the guitar. Both of them are songwriters as well.
Their music can be memorable as they create a fusion of melodic pop, indie rock, and synth pop. Something we don’t usually hear in the local music industry. They’ve released their first EP last 2016.
3. St. Wolf
I think you’ll bet on St. Wolf for giving a bit hardcore music with a touch of smooth and sexy sounds and vocals. This made them entitle their demo song, Swabecore.
St. Wolf is composed of four members. KL de la Cruz is on the vocals, Vince Lucero on the guitar; Karlo Maglasang on the bass; and Bob Sadural on drums.
4. Leanne and Naara
Leanne and Naara smoothen and lighten up the night with their soulful music. The duo already has good vocal harmony. But, they still do not stop in making experiments and finding new elements to make their music unique.
The duo met at Assumption college where they both finished Bachelor of Communication Major in Performing Arts.
5. Guji Lorenzana
We’ve seen him in television, movie screens, and theaters. In the music industry, he is a singer-songwriter and a club DJ. He collaborates with different music artists and tries out different musical acts and genres.
6. Keiko Necesario
Her songs are mostly inspired by Taylor Swift, Daughter, Nat King Cole, Joan Jett and our very own Barbie Almalbis. Her passion for music drives her to write her own song and sing every day.
Keiko Necesario was first exposed in the local songwriting competition, Philippine Popular Music Festival.
7. Dane Hipolito
This young heartthrob has already appeared as a featured artist on MYX. He performs in malls, bars, coffee shops, and online. He has done his own rendition of the songs like “Hallelujah” by Bamboo and “Style” by Taylor Swift. But, he is best at writing his own songs like “Hiwaga” which is already available.
Other artists who support and perform for the OO event are:
1. Emmanuel Vera
She became part of ASAP XV’s Full Circle segment, Star Magic’s ballet/jazz group and some television series. In the music industry, she is a soul, pop and R&B singer, and songwriter.
2. Gio Levy
Gio Levy is a Filipino-Canadian singer/songwriter. His sultry and velvet voice suits the fusion of pop and R&B. He has already performed as an opening act for Brian McKnight and for youtube sensations, AJ Rafael and Gabe Bondoc.
3. Roy Antonio
He is a member of local band, Sunday Radio. But, here, he performs as an individual indie artist and plays R&B with a touch of John Meyer vibe.
SNRG means Some Never Really Get. This duo consist of Filipino-American brothers, Aaron “Eyespk” and Beau “L.A. Stone” Canlas. Their music is a blend of electro-retro-rhythm-and-rock with powerful lyrics that many Filipinos can relate to.
I hope you’ll be able to watch them in the next OO: Originals Only event which will be held on March 27, 2018, 9 PM at Upperhouse, 2nd Floor Brewery, BGC, Taguig. You may also follow them on Facebook for other latest updates.
