5 Ways to Get Cozy Interiors This Rainy Season
By Cat Lo
Before you try to sing away the rainy day blues, opt instead to revel in the homey opportunity that the wet season brings. Stormy skies and the gloomy weather may keep you from heading out, but who says that’s a bad thing? With these nifty tips and tricks on cozy interiors, we guarantee that you won’t have to ask the rain to come again another day.
1. Take a seat.
A comforting cup of hot tea, a good book, and a cozy little corner to snuggle in—there’s no better way to bask in the atmosphere of an overcast day. Just how do you set up these tranquil spaces while listening to the relaxing droplets on the window panes? “To anticipate staying at home with friends you’re stranded with, it’s better to have more than enough seating pieces,” says Doris Dy, one of the most talented interior designers in the country. With her vast expertise in working for top businesses in the Philippines, she knows how to keep things cozy without sacrificing simplicity. “Have ottoman stools and fluffy pillows ready with your coffee table,” she says. “It’ll also be good for board games, card games, and bonding activities with family and friends.”
2. De-stress and de-clutter.
Aside from setting up rainy-day ready reading nooks, there are a myriad of other ways you can enjoy some quality time with your loved ones at home. “Free up space and de-clutter—particularly the area where your television set is,” Dy shares. “It never hurts to be ready for impromptu movie marathons, or even exciting challenges and competitions on your favorite video game console.”
3. Indulge your tummy.
Got a serious case of the munchies? Keep your grumpy tummy happy and your sweet tooth satiated by having an arsenal of snacks well within reach. “Have a well-supplied bar table ready for some munch time,” says Dy. “Make use of acrylic trays, wire baskets, and a good collection of glassware to help you snack in style.” Nothing dampens a staycation at home more than empty cupboards and dwindling pantry supplies, after all!
4. Chillax in peace.
“Own a corner with your favorite chair along with your fave throw and pillows when you feel like snuggling up,” Dy continues. “Accompany it with a comfy area rug and a pile of books to read.” If a rowdy house party isn’t your thing, satisfy your inner introvert with some smooth tunes and meditative melodies. Chill out with the serene sound of the rain, and take a moment to breathe in, breathe out, and contemplate. How often can you get a rare moment of peace like this?
5. Perk up.
The dull weather doesn’t have to dampen your mood either. According to Dy, “pops of colors combined with dark hues is always a good idea. Paired with your crisp white linens, sleeping during rainy season can have a different twist.” We definitely can’t agree more, and with all these awesome tips, we’re pretty sure you’re as excited to stay at home this season as we are!
