10 Special Places To Celebrate Mother’s Day

May 9, 2017 7:00 pm by Gabriella Galvez

Mothers do more work than they are thanked for, and while it might take becoming one to understand yours completely, all it takes is a little empathy (and research) to find out how exactly to make your mom (or wife) feel like she’s number one, especially on a day that’s dedicated to her.

1. For the mom who loves the sea (and its fruits): Hook by Todd English

Lent may be over but there’s no need to start swearing off the seafood, especially if your mom can’t get enough of them!

Hook has an extensive seafood menu, divided between Raw and Cooked, most of which (like their oysters) are bought fresh from local sources.

Come for the Seafood Platters, or for Happy Hour, where their Aklan oysters come at $1 each!

2. For your meat-loving mom: Wolfgang’s Steakhouse

Get only the best cuts for Mom on her special day: Wolfgang Zwiener rose from working in the kitchens of Peter Luger to putting up his own chain of steakhouses around the globe, which makes him an authority in the dry-aging (the resto has its own Dry-Aging Room!) and preparation of different cuts of beef.

Celebrate her day with wholesome, guilt-free dining at The Wholesome Table. From organic Baby Back Ribs (with options for sauces, and to upgrade for a side of Blue Corn) to vegan-friendly pizzas, salads, and Power Bowls, there’s something for everyone in your family to munch.

Regardless of your stance on ethical dining, Wholesome Table makes sure that you enjoy your meal without putting any strain on the environment.

6. Izakaya dining for the mom who gets full right away: 12/10

Located on a secluded back street in San Antonio Village, the second restaurant put up by Thea de Rivera and Gab Bustos (their first, The Girl + The Bull) has a Japanese menu that’s meant to be taken in batches over hearty conversation, in between sips of your chosen cocktail (or glass of wine). Servings are small (hence the phrase, izakaya dining) yet packed with flavor, which will leave you ordering your favorite plates twice (or thrice).

As of this writing, word is that they’re changing their menu pretty soon, so if you’ve never been then this is a good time to go. Given that 12/10 is closed on Sundays, best make this a Mother’s Day salubong-of-sorts.

The cure to your Monday blues. #catfish #onebowloneperson #twelvetenph

7. Wine and dine the family matriarch here: CDP Global Table

Chef Du Partie, or CDP Global Table, is the collaboration between three powerhouses of the food industry (one among them Malou Fores of Mamou and Recovery Food), takes you around the world in small bites. Husbands may take their wives here for an intimate night out sans offspring, as the ambiance and dishes add up, making diners feel as if they were dining in New York or Paris instead.

8. For a destressing Mother’s Day Soak: I’M Onsen Spa

Got a mom who’s more in need of a massage than a meal? Take her here. I’M Onsen Spa is now the largest spa facility in the Metro, boasting primarily of its Japanese Onsen baths, which are powered by unique carbonation technology specially brought in from the Land of the Rising Sun.

Treat your beloved Mom (and Dad) to a Spa-cation Package for Mother’s Day Weekend, and join them for a meal at any of the hotel’s restaurants (Bloom for all-day buffet, or Emerald Jade for modern Chinese cuisine).

10. A Southern retreat for southern belles: Qiwellness Living Tagaytay

Unbeknownst to many, Qiwellness Living has a Dining Room that serves a Yin Yang degustation menu that changes quarterly, matching China’s climate of four seasons. I recently enjoyed Easter Dinner (which marked the end of their Winter menu), and it was nothing short of delicious.

taste-celebratemothersday7For Mother’s Day, diners can reserve a table and enjoy the 6-course Spring menu (or order from their a la carte menu instead).

taste-celebratemothersday8Dine with the view of majestic Taal Lake by your side, and enjoy the cool breeze before making the drive back to the city (or better yet, book a treatment at The Bathhouse, or an overnight stay at The Guesthouse).

We’ve done the research, now it’s your turn to book a memorable meal (or experience) for the most special woman in your life. We only get one day a year to show the brunt of our appreciation for the hard-working matriarchs of our families, so make sure you go all-out!
